Here are some pictures of Maisie’s nursery. It’s not completely finished, but is for the most part.
Here is her crib, bedding set, her glittery name (from Hobby Lobby), and an afghan made my Linda, one of my co-workers. Micah hung the letters this weekend. I would have preferred them to be a bit lower, but he said he put them up higher so that they would be out of her reach, which is probably a good point. I’m trying to think of something to fill up the area underneath her name, but haven’t come up with anything yet.
Here is her dresser (which I am still in love with!!). We bought the mirror at Hobby Lobby (half-off, I might add!). When we got it home, Micah noticed that it had been painted a dark pink before so some of the pink shows through the black. We are thinking about scratching it up some so that more of the pink shows through, but haven’t decided for sure. I got the basket at Hobby Lobby, also. The lamp came from Gordman’s. And the cute little diaper cake was made by another co-worker, Vicki (actually her daughter made it, but she brought it).
Here is Maisie’s changing table. Not too exciting. There are a few blankets and a few hooded towels underneath it in this picture, but when I get all the blankets in it that I got from my shower it will be completely full!
Here is the owl changing pad cover that matches her bedding …
And here are two of the three canvases that we have painted for her wall. Ryan did the one on the pink canvas. It is still a work in progress. I gave it to him the first time with four different paint colors and was very careful to make sure he only used one brush for each color of paint because I didn’t want it to be a big brown mess when he was done. He did good using the different brushes for the different colors, but when he painted he liked to blend all the colors together so when he was done it was basically a lot of green in the middle. Micah thought it would be good for us to give him one color of paint at a time and let him paint for a minute or two, let it dry, and then do the same with another color. So we have done this one time with the pink and still have a few more colors to go. I will be sure to post pictures of the finished product!
Micah and I painted the owl Sunday night. I found canvases online to go with the bedding but they were around $38 for two of them, so I decided to be thrifty and do them myself. Well, after approximately three hours of painting, we completed one canvas. It was a joint effort and we had a lot of fun doing it, but I think Micah has almost decided that $38 would have been a good price for the two canvases! I, on the other hand, wouldn’t trade our experience for anything! We will paint a different owl on another canvas and put it on the other side of Ryan’s painting to complete this wall.
Here is the bookshelf that Micah graciously repainted and distressed for Maisie. This bookshelf was a dark brown color and we had it in our bedroom. We switched out bookshelves and decided to paint it the same color as her dresser. I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out! Micah bought the three pink baskets at Lowe’s and the picture frame came from Hobby Lobby. The white basket with the pretty pink bow came from Betty and Rose (more co-workers) at my shower. I will either use it for laundry or toys.
Here is the rocking chair with the quilt and pillow that Betty and Rose made. They did an amazing job on both and I’m sure Maisie will get a lot of use out of both of them throughout the coming years. I love the bright colors and the little pillow is the cutest thing ever!!
Here is a wider view of one corner of her room. I wanted to post this one to show the rug. We have had major rug problems, so are back at square one with it. This rug was one that we had in Ryan’s room for the first few months of his life. It’s a green shag rug and is very cute, but can’t be vacuumed and is very hard to clean. (We did find out it that it is machine washable so Micah is taking it to a laundromat tomorrow to try to get it clean.) And, the big thing is that it doesn’t really match anything in her room except for a few owls on the sheets and changing pad cover. So we found a really cheap ($78 with free shipping) dark pink rug on the Home Depot website that was huge. We ordered it and after being on backorder they finally shipped it. Well, when it arrived both of us decided it was too much for the room. Micah said he wanted to gag every time he walked by the room (dramatic, I think so!!) because it was just too much pink. I agreed that it was too much, so we have decided to return it. We have searched online for a reasonably priced rug that would go with the room, but have yet to find one that we both agree on. I want a light pink one, but Micah doesn’t. And everything that Micah likes, I don’t. So we are back to the green shag rug for now … until I convince Micah to get a pink one!!
I am really happy with how the room has turned out and love the color combination. Now we just need to bring Maisie home and it will be complete!
