Ryan – 3 Years, 1 Month Old

Ryan turned 37 months old on January 6th.  Yes, I know I’m very late with this post, but better late than never, huh?!  I’ve actually been debating whether or not to continue his monthly posts because I know I’m going to be super busy with the new baby, but I’m going to try my hardest to continue with the updates because I love going back and reading them … and otherwise I won’t remember a thing he did!

I haven’t taken his measurements this month and since he’s half-way to 38 months I won’t even bother!

I really think that Ryan knows that a big change is coming in his life.  He has been super needy the past month and wants to be by my side 24/7.  He always wants to cuddle with me, which I do not mind at all!  Right after Christmas he started wanting to be held all the time.  I told him that my belly was too big to hold him for very long, so I would pick him up and sit down on the couch to which he would respond, “That’s not holding, that’s sitting!”.  I explained to him time after time that I was still holding him even though I was sitting down but he was never happy with it!

Ryan calls underwear “underwaiter” and I love it!  I often ask him to say it just to put a smile on my face!

Sometimes when I say stuff to him he says, “Don’t say that!  Teachers don’t say that!” … It’s usually something like, “That’s cool” so I’m not sure why he thinks teachers don’t say that but whatever!

My hair is desperately in need of a haircut so I’ve been pulling part of it up lately.  He gets so excited when I do this and says, “You have a ponytail?”, even though it’s just half-pulled back in a clip!

He says, “You wanna play with me, too?” and always shakes his head while saying “too” … simply adorable!

Ryan still loves to help me cook.  We made oatmeal scotchies the other day and he actually stirred everything by himself until I added the oats in and it was too hard for him.

“This be awesome!” is one of his frequently used statements these days … uses this a lot when playing with his race track.

Ryan LOVES the guitar that we got him for Christmas.  He took it to show and tell at Preschool two Fridays in a row!

Ryan’s new favorite thing to watch is Care Bears!!   I think that the girls at preschool definitely out rule the boys on what they watch!

I am happy to say that Ryan has taken several naps at home in the past month.  I have discovered that letting him sit on the couch and watching a movie on Netflix that he’s never seen before does wonders.  He ends up laying his head down on the arm of the couch and is out within minutes!  Just another reason that I love Netflix!  And, I also love taking pictures of him while he sleeps!

I was having trouble with Ryan taking forever to get in his car seat every time when we got in the car.  And with it being cold outside, it was really starting to get on my nerves.  Micah discovered that we could say, “I’m going to beat you in your car seat” and start counting to three and Ryan would always get in his car seat super fast, so that is now how I get him in there every time!  Love it!

Ryan never wants to stop playing and get in bed (of course!), so I have started setting the kitchen timer and when it goes off he knows that it is time to get his jammies on, his teeth brushed, and get in bed.

Speaking of bed, we finally got Ryan’s big boy bed all finished and we love it!  We ended up using my old daybed from when I lived at home.  MIcah took the back of it off and repainted the ends lobster red (which after much arguing with Micah when he bought it, it really is orange!!).  Granny Joy bought him a dinosaur comforter set for Christmas and it matches the orange in it almost perfectly.  Ryan has been sleeping much better since we got him in that bed so I am very excited!

I can safely say that Ryan is fully potty-trained now.  Since he started wearing underwear to bed he has only had two accidents and it’s been almost a month since his last one.  I am one proud mommy because I didn’t even have to try to do this … he just decided to do it on his own!  Such a big boy!

He has started wanting to “wash” dishes to which I gladly let him do.  One day he stood at the sink for over 30 minutes washing one bowl.  I actually got him on video one day and asked if he was going to help mommy wash dishes when he got older and he said he was!  So I have proof now and he must follow through! HA!!

Ryan was sick two different times this past month, both times with a mild stomach bug.  Thankfully they both were very short-lived!  The second time happened at daycare and he actually threw up on a little girl … poor Ryan and poor girl!  I made a pallet on the floor for him when he got home, gave him a “special drink” (gingerale) and he didn’t move for about 2 hours.  Micah came home and we gave him Tylenol and I went back to work.  Within 30 minutes, Micah said he was up running around.  After a 3-hour nap he was back to his normal hyper self!
